Classic car clubs are renowned for the support they offer to charities, recognition is not asked for and largely donations go unnoticed except by the recipients. Storrington and District Classic and Sportscar Enthusiasts (Sadcase) is a club that doesn’t charge a membership but these lovers of the older cars are happy to give up their cash for charity whenever asked. The club gathered a great variety of classics at their regular monthly Tuesday night gathering at The Spur in Slindon to present a £1500 cheque to the Mary How Trust for cancer prevention; whose mission is to make health screenings and healthy living advice accessible to all irrespective of an ability to pay. Donations fund their work and Sadcase are very keen to be involved. The money has been collected over the past year taken from enthusiasts’ pockets in a variety of ways including a rather strange weekly raffle. The prizes described affectionately as ‘rubbish’ (donated by members) included items such as 2009 calendars, a pack of 4 sponges containing just 3 and some chocolate bars that may well have been left in a very hot car. Quiz nights and general harassment with collection tins are also methods adopted by the club and they all obviously worked. Around 100 classics brought their owners along to witness Mike Toynbee from the charities fund raising committee accept the cheque from Meredith Hutchins and Martin Pester. A great evening enjoyed by all and another worthy charity received some classic car generosity. Thanks to all SADCASE's who have contributed to the raffle.
