SADCASE 2016 so far....
The no frills, no subscription, if you love it so do we formula has remained popular; so much so that our registered membership has now topped the one thousand mark. The club continues to run on a minimum of funding, which is generated via a monthly spoof raffle, the sale of windscreen stickers, badges etc and regalia. Also now on sale is the 2017 SADCASE calendar featuring members cars. The first part of the year kicked off with our usual spring breakfast at Pagham Beach Cafe. We were then involved in a number of events that included, Drive It Day, a supercar rally organised by the local District Council and a joint gathering with the Southdowns Gliding Club at their airfield; inevitably it was called “Gliders and Classics”.
The 31 July saw a massive first for the club when, at the invitation of the Storrington Parish Council, we put on the SADCASE stand alone Classic Vehicle Show in our home town. The local authority gave us a huge amount of support, providing the location and sorting out things like risk assessments and event licences for us. On the day, the sun shone, 450 cars of just about every marque, 50 motorcycles, 3 restored David Brown Tractors and 1950’s removal van all turned up. By mid-day we had reached capacity. We did not charge drivers or the general public any entrance fee. However, support from local businesses, as well as money thrown into collection buckets by those who wished to donate, more than covered costs and enabled a substantial cash gift to a local charity possible. There has been an amazing reaction to the show and the feed back is telling us that it was a roaring success from every angle. Now the question we are being asked is “can you do it again next year but even bigger “ Time will tell. There are many photographs on our website and Facebook page if you get a chance to take a look.
The rest of the year will see our regular twice monthly meetings continue. We also have a BBQ planned and two more breakfast gatherings. Apart from that, it seems as though a weekend does not go by without SADCASE being asked to take part in an event somewhere. Classic and sports cars just seem to have caught everyone’s imagination. Long may it continue.
