1965 Austin Healey Sprite 1380cc - £7,500

I bought the car in August 2014. The additional power from the 1380cc engine and improved suspension and braking make this Sprite great fun to drive, and would make it suitable for hill climbs and sprints, though I’ve never competed the car. I’m only selling the car because I fancy a change. The spec when I bought the car was as follows;

• Bare metal re-spray in the late 1990s, paint work refreshed in 2013,
• 1380cc ‘A’ Series by Steve Harris Motor Engineering
• Kent 276 camshaft
• Gas flowed MG Metro cylinder head, 9.6:1 compression ratio.
• 1.5:1 Roller tipped rockers
• Baffled sump
• Lightened/balanced flywheel
• Twin 1½” SU HS4 Carburettors
• Aluminium “KAD” 4 piston front brake callipers, Mintex M1144 pads
• Lowered suspension front and rear
• +1.5O Negative camber top trunnions
• Front and rear dampers up-rated
• Rose jointed Panhard rod kit on rear axle – Peter May Engineering
• Minator 8 spoke aluminium wheels
• Fibreglass one-piece removable hinged bonnet
• Aluminium fuel tank inside boot
• Aluminium boot lid to accommodate ‘Sebring’ type fuel filler
• Fuel and brake pipes routed inside car
• Safety Devices roll bar
• 5 Point Harnesses
• High Back Seats
• Modified dash layout
• Soft top and hood frame

I have a large file of receipts and invoices stretching back to the late 1980’s, when the car was restored/modified. These came with the car when it was purchased by me in 2014 and include a few photos of the bare shell in primer and then yellow plus one of the car in its original red. During my ownership I’ve been happy that the shell is rust free, and I’ve tried to keep it this way by only using the car in dry weather following a thorough treatment of Waxoyl shortly after I purchased the car. The car is not concours, but always draws attention and retains its original ‘look’ despite the modifications.

Since buying the car I’ve spent a fair amount of time and money getting it sorted the point where it’s very reliable and I’m happy with how it drives and runs. I had the car set up on a rolling road by BD Engineering in Kent when they recorded 106hp at 6325rpm and 89lbft at 3500rpm. Based on old MOTs the engine has only done around 9,000 miles since its rebuild to 1380cc. I have receipts for all the parts/work I’ve had carried out and have a few spares which will be include in the sale including Mintex brake pads, a spare half shaft, etc . The engine has always been run on Valvoline VR1 20W/50 during my ownership. The current MOT expires 23rd February 2018, but this will be renewed before sale if required. I have all the MOTs since I’ve owned the car and most back to 1990, with the earliest from 1974. The current mileage is 37,761. The original odometer read 109,443 when I bought the car and 110,294 when I replaced it with one reading 35,018; which now reads 37,761, so around 3,600 miles during my ownership.
The head gasket failed in 2015, but since replacing this in with a GEG300 gasket and making improvements to the cooling this has given no further trouble. During my ownership the car has benefited from the following many of which make the car more reliable/driveable;

• Frontline 5 speed Ford Type 9 gearbox conversion
• New Mini Spares 12A2032RACE oil filter housing / K&N HP-1004 oil filter
